Business Spotlight: Hart Gallery 27 in Brockport
May 14, 2024
I traveled to the next town over from my house in Spencerport, headed west, and ended up at Hart Gallery 27 in Brockport. It was a Friday afternoon and cool and not too sunny in early May. When I entered the small art gallery I was greeted by the owner Benton. We know each other from me coming to previous shows.
At the entrance way, there was a sign in sheet which I didn’t bother to sign because they already have my email and then further in the gallery there was a table with prints available. All throughout the gallery, the floor was redone and looked like the original wood of the building. The walls of the gallery were a nice brick and gave the space a lot of charm.
There were two artists, a married couple, with about twenty paintings hanging up between the two of them. Most of the paintings from the man, David Corbin, were portraits and figurative paintings and the woman, Devon Corbin, had mostly still life paintings. David’s paintings weren’t very cheerful, but that’s what made them interesting being kind of solemn. He had a portrait of a woman which was called Red and another portrait of a woman called Liza. Devon’s still life paintings were very good, real looking, but not too real looking. She had a still life painting of oranges called Citrus Study and another one of apples called Trois Pommes.
I was the only patron at the gallery today, but I’m sure if I went to the art opening last Friday, I would’ve seen a lot of people. Sarah and Benton try to have a new show every month. Sarah, the other owner of the art gallery arrived as I was leaving, and she asked me what my favorite painting was, and I told her that I didn’t have one. I did like David’s paintings better than Devon’s though.
We have our busy schedules, but it’s nice to unwind and appreciate art for just a minute. We do this for ourselves, but also to support local artists as well as the art gallery.
